Welcome to Prarie Pi. This blog exists to journal and document the memories that our family experiences. Pi is "an amount of type that has been jumbled or thrown together at random." We hope to assemble in words and pictures the daily thoughts and activities that happen in our household. We do this to help those that are distant from us get a glimpse into our days so that the miles that separate us won't keep us apart.

Moe-ism

Moe: Mom, are you getting used to the house?
Mom: Yes, I am. It's starting to feel like home. How about you, Moe, are you getting used to the house?
Moe: Yeah, I'm getting used to it, too.
Mom: Do you like your new house?
Moe: Yep, I'll take the 3-Year-Free-Trial-Offer-plan.

One of the "perks" of the location that we moved to is that there is a Farmer's Market close down the road. A road that we happen to pass by quite frequently. We have been enjoying the summer fresh fruits and vegetables but......

hands down

the best is

THE WATERMELON!!!

Big, red, juicy and seedless, too!
Mmmmmmmm, we can't get enough of it!

Our world may be upside down right now, but we are going to land on our feet, eventually.

We Miss Them Already

We had grandparents at our house all week-end and we loved every minute of it.
They definitely put the "GRAND" in grandparents.

We are glad you got home safely. Keep the visits coming!
We love you!

P.S. Nacho just didn't get one Mentos, he received a whole box.....I've never heard him say "Thank-you" so enthusiastically before!

How fitting to talk about grandparents on this special Feast Day!

Look What We Got!

How long does it take to get to the center of a trampoline?

Mark is reading.....

reading some more.....

figuring things out....

Big question is......will they finish before dark?
Getting there....

Almost.......

When the people who used to live here stated on the listing sheet that this property had wonderful sunsets, well, they were right!
Completed enough to get in a few maiden jumps....

Don't worry, the safety net came up the next afternoon!!

Baptismal Anniversary

Jacob Paul
GOD'S CHILD
Your Little One,
Dear Lord
Your little one, dear Lord is he
And cross Your lowly bridge to see,
Enlighten his soul and mind,
That he the way to You may find.
O draw him wholly to You, Lord,
To him we beg Your grace accord,
True faith and love to him impart
That he may hold You in his heart.
Until at last he too proclaims
With all Your saints, Your glorious name;
In paradise his song renew,
And praise You as the angels do.

Hope you had a wonderful baptismal birthday!!! We miss you and would have loved to have taken you out for ice cream to celebrate such a special day!! God's Blessings to you today and always!

Love all of us!

Bubba Burgertime

Mark did the grocery shopping the other night and he was looking for pre-made hamburgers. We always had our freezer stocked with pre-made Hy-Vee burgers and grilled them AT LEAST once a week when we lived on 61st St.
Well, he didn't come home with store-made pre-shaped, he came home with what the local butcher HIGHLY recommended......Bubba Burgers. Since they were on sale, Mark threw them in the cart.
Last night was the big night to try them out. Our home inspecter was here yesterday and happened to see the box on the counter and he even backed up the butcher, "Wow, Bubba Burgers tonight, yum! Those are great burgers." You could see our mouths salivating after that comment.

You put them on the grill frozen, right from the box. Already they had us hooked as you can't get much easier than that. No messing around with raw hamburger that falls apart without proper handling.

To compliment the meal, Mark tried a new way of doing corn on the grill.......straight from his favorite "How To Make Grilling Easy," cookbook.

Needless to say, we watched those burgers like a hawk.

Can you see/feel the anticipation in the room as we are ready to take our first bite?
(except for Coco, she already had her main course)

They were a hit.....even finicky, "Dessert Only Please," Nathan ate his portion all gone.
Trying new things.....that's what it's all about for us right now.....even the food!!

David C.

1947-2010

Our neighbor.....

who borrowed us ladders,

who gave the boys a $20 bill for the"good" used golf balls they found,

who always had a smile on his face,

who daily waved to us from his pick-up,

who gave Ky, Rocky and Moe their very 1st airplane ride ever,

even letting Ky be his co-pilot,

and patiently letting Rocky be his co-pilot,

and last but not least, even letting Moe be his co-pilot,

whose grand-daughter is our daughter's best friend,

Will Always Have A Special Place In Our Hearts.

"And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,

Bear you on the breath of dawn,

Make you to shine like the sun,

And hold you in the palm of His Hand."

Love and prayers from our family to yours.

*One girl has double ear infection.
*Can you tell by the picture?
*No, I didn't think so.
*Now, if I would have posted a picture of myself?
*Yes, you'd know by the bags under my eyes.
*Babies don't sleep well with ear infections.
*Notice the pj's and the sun still shining?
*Both girls happy to go to bed at 7:30pm.
*Me, I'm not far behind.
*Good-night!

Track Meet

It's Crazy Days around here. From what we can gather, it's 10 days of fun, merriment and lots of activities for all the residents to enjoy. Wednesday night was a track meet for ages 7-12......not overly attended, but well put on by the people in charge. Our first summer event ever in our new state, we ventured out in the hot weather to fully immerse ourselves in the local culture and to check out the running competition.

Moe had fun. 1st place in softball throw. (No 2nd or 3rd place awarded) 1st place in the 400yd dash. (because of no other participants, he got to race in the girl division) 1st place in the 50yd dash. (One 2nd place awarded....tight race) 1st place in the 200yd dash.....this race had more kids to run against.

All in all, it was our family trying something new. Something we're trying to do more of these days. Waiting patiently for new faces to become faces we recognize............knowing that we need to venture out on outings such as these to make everything and everyone seem more familiar.......realizing that this process is a marathon, not a sprint.

Have a blue ribbon day,
Sara

Bullseye

What's a girl to do when she has older brothers who like nerf guns?

Sit back, smile and go along with the ride!

Have a great day!
