Welcome to Prarie Pi. This blog exists to journal and document the memories that our family experiences. Pi is "an amount of type that has been jumbled or thrown together at random." We hope to assemble in words and pictures the daily thoughts and activities that happen in our household. We do this to help those that are distant from us get a glimpse into our days so that the miles that separate us won't keep us apart.

Our Corn.....

....technically, it belongs to the farmer down the road......but, we have always lovingly referred to it as......
...OUR corn.

All summer long it created a beautiful boundary at the end of our property line. It was knee-high and green when we moved in and we saw it mature throughout the summer.

Well, our corn was harvested a few days ago. Nacho was very excited to see and hear the roar of the big, green machine that came right by our backyard.

It didn't take long for the rows to quickly disappear......
yet, ever so deliberately, the new landscape began to take shape.....

The boys went out searching for any lost balls and for their favorite lost frisbee....
having fun walking where they couldn't walk before.....
treading on new ground....
The view from our window now is just a little bit different.....
I like it.
The sunsets seem just a tad more golden somehow as the rays bounce off the short, harvested stalks.....

Harvested stalks that remind us of this gathering season.....

where we sing more songs of praise and thanksgiving......

the autumn goodness of bountiful graces, gifts and blessings.

Each day.....a gift itself......of God's divine life in us.

Our corn....an a-MAIZE-ing reminder....

of such AMAZING GRACE!!!

October 9th Snow?

Here is proof that it snowed on Oct. 9.....1 year ago......
We know, because.....

We celebrated a birthday on this day with a strawberry/rhubarb pie....
(notice the baseball glove in the picture.....why would that be there?)

Wish we could celebrate with you today.....

Wishing you a Blessed Birthday!
We Love You and Miss You!
From All of Us

A Howl in the Night

Mark, Rocky and Moe have heard their howling before.

I heard that piercing wail for the 1st time last night.....it woke me up around 3Am.
It sounded like there was one right under my window....
hmmmmm.....
they like to search for food at night.....
they like ripe fruit....
maybe I should get all those tomatoes that are right next to the house picked tomorrow.

Our Little Monkey

Nacho learned a new feat yesterday.
We had a field trip with our homeschooling group to Papa John's Pizza and then we took our pizzas to one of our favorite parks.

These monkey bars were just the right size and height for a 3 year old.

Blue skies, pizza, a great park and learning something new.....

It was one of Nacho's favorite days!!

The Birthday Girl's Special Day

Buttercup's birthday was a day full of games.....
We had Rocky's football game....

Both Buttercup and Moe had soccer games.....

Buttercup did a pre-game warm-up with 100 jumps to get herself ready to play.....

(or she opened an early morning present and could hardly put the jump rope down)

Then, she had her last Fall softball game......

This was Buttercup's first introduction to the game of softball. It was a very short season where she learned how to play the game. Spring will just be too busy for her to play at the same time as her brothers play, so Fall Ball was a great option for us.
She loved it.

Then, after a rather chilly day, it was a supper of hamburger/noodle casserole that really warmed us up.....Grandma's special and our favorite.

Then, it was time to frost the cake.

Grandma Jo's creation turned out wonderfully and very yummy, too. I have yet to make a birthday cake.......that is a job that both Grandmas have done for as long as I can remember.

Next, it was on to the opening of the presents. Nacho could hardly be patient any longer.......he had been waiting for this point of the day ALL DAY LONG. It was extra special that we had Grandpa and Grandma here to share the week-end with us!

The new car!!! We had to take it outside for a test drive even though it was pitch dark by the time she opened it!!!
It was a very wonderful and fun day!!
WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR THE GIFT OF OUR DAUGHTER......who brings so much love to our family!!
WE LOVE YOU, BUTTERCUP!

Mail Time.....Take 2

I just got a package....
I just got a package.....
I just got a package.....
I wonder who it's from?!!
It's from Alice!!

My mom mentioned in her post last Friday that there is nothing like getting a handwritten note in the mail, well.......there is really, really, really nothing like getting....cookies in the mail!!
It was so much fun!

I shared my birthday cookies with my brothers and sister......they were so good!

Coco especially loved them!
Dear Alice: (and her baking helpers)
Thank you so much for the special birthday care package......
I loved it!
It made my day extra special. I wish you could celebrate with me on Saturday.
I remember meeting you exactly 1 year ago!
Love,
Buttercup
