Welcome to Prarie Pi. This blog exists to journal and document the memories that our family experiences. Pi is "an amount of type that has been jumbled or thrown together at random." We hope to assemble in words and pictures the daily thoughts and activities that happen in our household. We do this to help those that are distant from us get a glimpse into our days so that the miles that separate us won't keep us apart.

Welcome, Summer Vacation!

After almost a week of being out of our house, we came back to some very nice, stained, refinished wood floors.

We spent this morning playing outside.
We checked the nest in our backyard.....

and found a toad....

Yep, it's summer!!!
Glad to be home and glad to have summer knocking at my door!
Have a great Tuesday!

Piano Recital

Sunday was the piano recital debut for Moe and Buttercup.

It was held 'coffee-house' style in a little cafe that adjoins an historic opera house....which is located in a very unique downtown square.

Buttercup began lessons this winter.....the teacher started working with her for 5 minutes after each of Moe's lessons.  She did wonderfully!

This is Moe's second year of playing piano.  He has learned so much under the guidance of this teacher and played "Music Box Dancer....a favorite of Grandpa's.  He did wonderfully, too.

It was all good.........

down to the last drop....and to the last song.

And it was extra special because Grandma and Grandpa were able to be at the recital.

"Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty.  Magical music never leaves the memory."--Sir Thomas Beecham

Hope you hear some magical music this week!

Wrapping Up The School Year

Our official 2010-2011 academic year is winding down.

Buttercup finished up by illustrating the Haiku she wrote today.

Spring
The weather is warm.
The flowers bloom from the ground.
Nacho plays outside.

Moe took his last math test.....he added and subtracted mixed fractions with different denominators.

Rocky mowed the lawn...because....well, he basically has been done with his assignments since mid-April

Ky typed his last assignment from Mom....a book report on "Left To Tell"....the biography of Immaculee Ilibagiza....a survivor of the Rwandan Holoaust.

Nacho has been busy playing with his space shuttle.  A toy that has been around since Ky and Rocky's early years but was just discovered by Nacho.  This toy has gone everywhere with him today....and was even tucked into a special bed last night.

Life's rythym will soon have a different beat....more to follow.

Happy Syttende Mai!

That's "Happy 17th Of May" for you non-Norwegians.
Syttende Mai has a similar significance in Norway as July 4th has in the United States of America. It marks the country's declaration of independence and the triumph of constitutional government. This day is also called Constitution Day and National Day and is a great spring festival in Norway.

We didn't do much in the way of celebrating this great day.....but I did catch Rocky sporting the traditional colors!

Bring us some Lefse when you come, Grandpa!!
Then we can celebrate in true fashion!

Ha en fin dag!

I Hope You Dance

"I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean....

......Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens....
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance.....

....And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance......

....I hope you dance.....

I hope you....

dance."
I Hope You Dance--Lee Ann Womack

We love you so much....

And are so proud of you!

We are so glad that you had a fun evening....

You looked lovely and danced beautifully!

Mother's Day Adventure

Guess what we did on Mother's Day?

Ky, Rocky, Moe, Buttercup, Nacho and I all went round and round together.....
on a ferris wheel at the local carnival.....it was Nacho's 1st ride ever.  He had spotted the bright, spinning wheel on the way to the library last Wed. and I had promised him we would go back and check it out before the action left town.

It was a "wheely, fairy good time!!"

I was especially thankful to be "around" all my children on such a special day.

Have a wheely great Tuesday!

It Was Fancy....

It was with Nancy.....

And.....it was a TEA PARTY!

Hosted by our local library, the girls made a craft,
had tea....

and listened to a the newest Fancy Nancy story.

Little sister wasn't interested in the story...she had other things on her mind.

A fun Saturday afternoon outing for the girls.

Have a fancy Monday!
