Welcome to Prarie Pi. This blog exists to journal and document the memories that our family experiences. Pi is "an amount of type that has been jumbled or thrown together at random." We hope to assemble in words and pictures the daily thoughts and activities that happen in our household. We do this to help those that are distant from us get a glimpse into our days so that the miles that separate us won't keep us apart.

Memorial Day 2012

Our family attended the local Memorial Day Program....

...and with hands over our hearts....

....we recited the Pledge of Allegiance...
...heard the Star Spangled Banner...

...and listened to some stories about those who gave their lives for our country.

Black balloons were released in honor of the POW's and MIA's.

Amidst our projects, swimming pool time and BBQed meals, it felt so good to stop and relect on what this day means for our family.
Happy Memorial Day!

We're Heading Into Summer....

....as we had our last day of homeschool yesterday.
We went to Panera's to celebrate and each child received his/her grade promotion.
I now officially have a kindergartner....

...a 3rd grader...
...a 5th grader...
...an 8th grader...
....and an almost 10th grader...he still needs to take finals next week!

This holiday week-end will find us at home...
doing some projects.
The swing set needs to be fixed.

Tarp needs to be laid....

...as Mark has been busy designing and preparing the areas around the house that.....
....will be filled with this pile of mulch.

The places that are done look great!

Even though there are a few projects to work on, there still will be some time for some fun and hanging around!

Have a wonderful week-end!!

Cookie Dough Balls

To my Godfather:
We made a recipe this week-end that was a hit with everyone!  We all love to eat cookie dough, and mom said this was a good recipe where we didn't have to worry about raw eggs!  Tell my Godmother to make them for you!  I hope you enjoy them!  Cole

Cookie Dough Balls

 2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup milk
Mini or regular size M&M's, Chocolate Chips or Both
Chocolate chips or chocolate bark for dipping

Directions:

Beat butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add milk and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt and mix on low speed. Stir in M&Ms or chocolate chips (or both).
Cover and chill dough for 1 hour.

When dough is firm enough to handle, form dough into balls and arrange on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Place sheets in freezer and let chill for 30 minutes.

Melt chocolate chips/bark in microwave stirring every 30 seconds until it is completely melted. Dip cookie balls into chocolate to cover. Chill until set. Store, chilled, in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

The View From Our Window

Look at the view from our staircase window!!!  Rocky just discovered this nest yesterday and we are so excited to have a front and center seat for this wonderful springtime show!

The bush is right next to our house and is a perfect place for a nest.

We just met Mama bird this morning!!  It will be fun to see the baby birds soon!

I Am Not A Fan Of.....

....ceiling fans that come crashing down for no apparent reason.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.  We were all outside at the time and I even heard the crash from the front porch.  If it would have happened about 45 minutes later, we would have been close to supper time!!!

Mother's Day 2012

Sunday was a beautiful, gorgeous day!  A picnic along the river and some time at the driving range......2 great ways to play in the sun and spend time together!

Ahhhh, Spring!

Reading....

...and pitching practice...

...were two afternoon activities that were enjoyed on this gorgeous spring day.....activities that I've witnessed many times before....

......but, when I saw this scene outside my kitchen window, I had to stop and think about what new activity Moe was up to today!?

It had to do with a blue jay that was hanging around our yard today.

Moe had some bird feed in his hand and he was trying to lure in the blue jay for a little treat.

Mr. Jay has let Moe come pretty close, but hasn't taken Moe up on his offer yet!

Piano Recital

Buttercup and Moe had a piano recital on Sunday.
Buttercup played, "The Queen's Royal Entrance"...

...and also played "It's A Small World" duet with her teacher.

Moe played a firey fast song called "Firedance"....and then...

....fist pumped his way off the stage as this was his official last recital.  The teacher is trying to talk him into coming back next year, but he has finished his required 3 years....a family standard that is a part of his homeschool music courses.

It was a nice "coffee shop" type recital and they both did well!  Buttercup kept her 1st Communion dress on for the 4:00pm recital so she was able to wear her special dress almost all day.....

...but when she got home....the dress came off....and as fun as it was to wear it....it felt good to get into play clothes and then head outside to ride bike!!

Buttercup's 1st Communion

Today was a beautiful day...

...and pure joy shown on Buttercup's face...

...in anticipation of...

....receiving her Lord for the very 1st time in Holy Communion.

Words cannot express her happiness and bliss as she walked on air all day.

Of course, this event could not go by without a celebration...

....and enough cake for everyone to have their fill.

"Adoremus in Aeternum Santissimum Sacramentum" which translates to "Let us for ever adore the Most Holy Sacrament."

A toast for many blessings.....

...and gifts....

....to honor this special day.

"She's got the joy.....

...joy....

....joy...

....joy....

....down in her heart....

....down in her heart...

....to...

....stay!!!!"

Tantum ergo sacramentum....
"Humbly let us voice our homage
For so great a sacrament;
Let all former rites surrender
To the Lord's New Testament;
What the senses fail to fathom,
Let us grasp through faith's consent!"
