Welcome to Prarie Pi. This blog exists to journal and document the memories that our family experiences. Pi is "an amount of type that has been jumbled or thrown together at random." We hope to assemble in words and pictures the daily thoughts and activities that happen in our household. We do this to help those that are distant from us get a glimpse into our days so that the miles that separate us won't keep us apart.

Happy Birthday, Rocky!

It was time to light 14 candles today!

And, we got to light them on Grandma Jo's homemade chocolate cake....a special request by Rocky.

Then...it was time to blow...

...and blow....

...and blow again!

I guess those candles I quickly grabbed at Wal-mart were labeled "magic re-light" and I didn't notice as I was only looking for the right color.  Whoops.  He finally got them blown out, though!

Another traditional morning birthday golf date!

Happy 14th Birthday!
It was a fun day!
I LOVE celebrating birthdays....because I LOVE remembering the day each of my children were born!
The best memories ever!

Dear Yardzilla....

Do you like our pretty stripes on our front yard!??  I was hoping that people who drive by would think that it adds character!
All one color?  That would be too boring!

But, I am finding that I am getting tired of this color....

....and, that I am partial to a nice, deep, dark green!
Any thoughts or help?
Yes, watering would be a great remedy.  The only water it gets is from the rain.  But, why do we get these dry spots in ROWS?

Very distinctive rows!

Love,
Your Non-Green Thumb Friend,
Sara

Creamy Blueberry Pie

I made the pie today and we all loved it!
So easy, too.
Since I have limited pie-crust making skills, I used a frozen Pillsbury crust and it was still DELICIOUS!

Creamy Blueberry Pie

Ingredients
3 c fresh/frozen blueberries
1 (9 inch) deep dish pie crust
1 c white sugar
1/3 c all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c sour cream
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/4 c butter, softened

Directions
1. Combine 1 c sugar, 1/3 c flour, and salt. Add eggs and sour cream, stirring until blended.

2. Place (thawed) blueberries in pastry shell, and spoon sour cream mixture over berries.

3. In another bowl, combine 1/2 c sugar and 1/2 c flour. Cut in butter until mixture resembles course meal. Sprinkle this mixture over sour cream mixture and berries in the pie shell.

4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 55-60 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Pool Play

This "pool play" is alot cooler....

...than the "pool play" where Ky has to play baseball in the hot sun to make it to the last day of the tournament!

And this pool play...

...is right down the street...

....courtesy of our neighbors....

....who love it when we use their pool.

This week, Coco learned to swim...

.....with her water wings!

We are thankful for such generous neighbors!

Fishing For Ground Squirrels....

...starts with a contraption like this.....

....combined with fishing line that goes to the upstairs window.

Next, add a little patience and quiet....

....which will hopefully lure in a ground squirrel who is hungry....

...and you got...

....a little fun!

It Was A Zoo At The Zoo Today....

.....as there were alot of people there to ...

...not only to see....

...all the great animals...

....but to also see....

...the Kratt Brothers!!!
It was well worth the trip, though, as we have Wild Kratt fans in this house!

Ky and Rocky had baseball games today, so I stayed home.
Our new membership gave us free tickets to the dophin show, so we will be going back soon!
(Photo credit goes to Moe.....except for the pictures he is in!)

Sixteen Candles

The birthday boy started his day bright and early....

...as this group of golfers headed out to a 7am tee-time.

Birthday golf outings....

....are starting to become....

...a yearly tradtion!

We had cake...

....with the song, "Sixteen Candles" playing in the background.

Ky received a car now that he is old enough to get his driver's license.....a toy car, that is!!!
He doesn't quite have the required "behind the wheel hours" yet to apply for his license....but it will probably happen soon, though!

The afternoon and night were capped off with basketball practice and then playing two sophomore summer league basketball games over an hour away!

It was a busy and fun day!
Happy Birthday, Ky!

Swingset Upgrade

We went from this....

....and by doing a little extra tweaking and designing....

....we now have this..... a new and improved swingset.
Mark added two extra "wings."  One wing has a new swing (the one that Moe is on) and the other side will have either a trapeze bar and a 2 seated slider, OR it will have a big round (tire swingish like) swing on the other side.  We are still deciding!

We also cemented our tether ball pole into a tire.  The 4 youngest put their hand-prints into the concrete!
