Welcome to Prarie Pi. This blog exists to journal and document the memories that our family experiences. Pi is "an amount of type that has been jumbled or thrown together at random." We hope to assemble in words and pictures the daily thoughts and activities that happen in our household. We do this to help those that are distant from us get a glimpse into our days so that the miles that separate us won't keep us apart.

January Spring-Like Winds

"It looks like spring......
(there are buds on the tree)
.....it feels like spring.....
....it smells like spring.....
..but it's January?"
Quoted by Buttercup 1/31/12

A piece of weathered off padding from our trampoline....

...and a good windy day....

...was a perfect combination for some great entertainment....

...kinda like a kite you can catch and fly without string!!

Happy Last Day of January!

Winter Wonder Ball 2012.....

....was the theme of our homeschool group's family dance and it gave us a reason to dress up and head out for the evening!!!

It's fun to find a perfect coat for the festivities....
(which was found in the hall closet....waiting to be worn again after Buttercup outgrew it!)

One particular girl wore a smile all evening long....

.....and I do believe it had to do something with a.....

...full...

....dance....

....card!!!???

Meanwhile....

...Moe and Coco had some pretty fancy steps to their dance!

Nacho had a few moves of his own...

....as he very naturally took the lead....

...and danced...

....happily....

....for the whole song!!

The theme was perfect for the evening...
it was wonderful!

Ky's Diary.....Cell Membrane Project

The structure of the cell membrane is mostly composed of phospholipids and proteins.
A carbohydrate chain extends externally from a phospholipid embedded within a cell membrane.
Cholesteral reduces the cell membrane permeability to most biological molecules.

This is one of the diagrams....
....that was an inspiration for the final result...
(made with styrofoam balls, toothpicks and pipecleaners)
which will become the prop for the oral report due today for Freshman Honors Biology.

Good-Luck on that presentation!

Buttercup's Diary

Tonight, I went to the library and met an author named Carol Brendler.  She wrote
 "WINNIE FINN, WORM FARMER."

I learned about worms.  I was even able to look at a worm farm.

The author signed a copy of my book.

It was fun to meet an author.

Love, Buttercup

To Build...

{1. To form by combining materials or parts; construct}
Buttercup built a square pyramid, cube, and two rectangular prisms by using toothpicks and marshmallows.

{2. To engage in the construction or design of buildings}
Nacho built a tower out of blocks.

{3. To develop or give form to according to a plan or process; create}
Three children....

....designed....

...sculptured....

....and built....

...a....

...snowman this afternoon.
{4. to establish and develop}
{5. to increase or strengthen by adding gradually to}

Grandparents build up stronger, loving bonds each time they visit!

{6. To develop or increase in stages or by degrees}
I have built up enough tiredness to retire for the evening!!
Good-night!

Simple Equation

Home-made Play-Dough = Hours Of Fun

"Play-dough NEVER gets boring!"....says Buttercup.

"Squishy!"....says Coco.

Play-dough always seems to attract a crowd......it's hard to walk by a play-dough station and not participate!!!
